A medical concern became a family separation .

Mahad Said Mohamed was born in Columbus, Ohio, as one of twins. His birth should have been a joyful beginning for his family. Like many parents, his mother and father hoped to raise their children in safety, love, and stability.

But shortly after birth, according to the family, Mahad began experiencing medical complications that made his condition different from his twin sibling.
